Manhasset Library Announces New Resource
New Special Needs Parenting Section Opens

The Manhasset Library is proud to announce the opening of their newest resource—The Special Needs Parenting Section—located in the Children’s library on the third floor. This new resource offers over 200 books, videos and DVDs on a wide-range of special needs issues. Topics include various learning disabilities and impairments, current learning approaches, special education, gifted and talented children, sibling and parenting issues, and special education law.

The new section is in response to the growing special needs population in Manhasset, providing a public resource for parents, families, and professionals who service their needs. Conveniently located in the children’s library, parents are able to scan the titles and topics while their children enjoy the library.

The new section is a result of a community-wide book drive by Manhasset Special Education PTA (SEPTA) last year that raised nearly $3,000 and dozens of ‘gifted’ new books. With endless hours of work and dedication over the past ten months, Manhasset SEPTA Chairperson Andrea Costello, along with Children’s Room Director Patricia Roos and library staff, are delighted to have the section now open for public use.

Book titles include: Behavioral Detectives; Dealing With Food Allergies in Babies and Children; It’s Okay to Be Different; It’s So Much Work to Be Your Friend; The Out-of-Sync Child Has Fun; Overcoming Dyslexia; Raising Gifted Kids; Signing for Kids;
Special Needs Advocacy Resource Book; Yoga for the Special Child; and Wrightslaw Special Education Law.
