Manhasset Hosts First Wrightslaw Study Group in NYS
Special Education Law Presentation on NY State Law Offered
Manhasset SEPTA hosted the first-ever Wrightslaw study group in New York State as the organization concluded their six-week special education sessions, headed by education attorney John McGrath. The sessions, which were held in the fall 2008 and in the spring 2009, had nearly 30 participants from across Nassau County including parents, educators and special education staff.
As a follow up to the federal laws and regulations outlined in the Wrightslaw program, there was also a two week open session that reviewed special education laws and regulations specific to New York State. These state regulations, updated in 2007, include the state’s response to IDEA law and part 200.
We are proud to break new ground in New York State by offering the first Wrightslaw study group in 2007-08, and SEPTA would like to acknowledge and thank education attorney John McGrath for all generously giving his time and effort to this endeavor. Furthermore, we are proud to announce that now several SEPTAs across Long Island have also started local Wrightslaw study groups to provide this resource to their communities. Contact Mr. McGrath at educationlawyers@gmail.com or ManhassetSEPTA@aol.com for more information about the group.
