The Chinese American Association of North Hempstead (CAANH) and Manhasset SEPTA's Gifted & Talented division is proud to announce a new community program, Chinese Conversation and Culture. The program starts on Fri, Jan 22 and will run for eight weeks at the Manhasset Public Library. Through the generous funding of CAANH, this program is free for all children who live in the town of North Hempstead.
The Chinese Conversation and Culture program is designed for children, creating a fun learning experience to teach the Mandarin language as Chinese culture is explored. Ideal for children ages 8 to 11 years old, the program is open to children who wish to participate.
“We are so glad to offer eager young minds this program,” SEPTA’s Gifted and Talented Director Kelly Fu states. “It’s a great way to explore global cultures while learning to speak another language,” she added.
“CAANH is delighted to bring the children in our community this program and the opportunity to connect with other children around the global by sharing their traditions and culture,” CAANH’s Angela Lee noted.
The classes are one hour long, taking place on Fridays at 4pm until 5pm in the Manhasset Public Library’s Community Room on the Lower Level. The program starts this Friday, with the class running on Jan 22, Jan 29, Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19, Feb 26, Mar 5 and Mar 12. The program is free to attendees, however registration is required. Please email ManhassetSEPTA@gmail.com to register, sending the child’s name, age, and address, phone. In-person registration will also take place at the class on Fri, Jan 22.
The Chinese Conversation and Culture program, which is sponsored and funded by CAANH and facilitated by SEPTA Gifted & Talented, is part of Manhasset SEPTA’s kick off for the new gifted and talented division. SEPTA Gifted & Talented, which also piloted the eighth grade science program in Nov 09, was created to service the special needs of the community’s gifted students and provide additional educational opportunities outside the school curriculum. Maximizing early learning opportunities for children in Manhasset is SEPTA Gifted & Talented’s focus. Input from the community is being welcomed, along with ideas for presentations and programs for the upcoming year. Contact Manhasset SEPTA by email at ManhassetSEPTA@gmail.com, or at Manhasset SEPTA, PO Box 155, Manhasset, NY 11030 with suggestions, for more information or to become a member.
